Question on basketball shoes ?.. thanks?
don't use them. especially DON'T WET them
Reply:I have a pair of my dad's basketball shoes. They look like the the old style Converses, but not sure who made them. I'd have to check. He bought them in 1946. He wore them for some basketball games he played in after the war. They've never been washed. They have been in a storage building for years (heat/cold changes) but they still look good. The only aging I see is that the rubber on the shoes is hard. You can't wear them anymore, but then, I'm not planning to.

I have a pair of little Nikes tennis shoes my daughter wore 22 years ago. The sole on them got hard also. They were always in a drawer in the house......so I don't think weather conditions plays much of a part in the hardening process.

there hasn't been any corrosion where the rubber just breaks apart, but bending the sole would make it crack since they no longer bend.
Reply:basketball shoes will last for SEVERAL SEVERAL years if you don't wear them outside on the pavements unless they are incredibly sturdy like the Jordan 12 or the Lebron 20.5.5

Well since you're collecting, you might as well preserve them by leaving them in the box and occasionally cleaning them and making polishing the leather a bit. Many soles will still tend to yellow even if you don't wear them, but that a long time. I'm talking about 20 years if you don't wear them.

It's cool that you're collecting Converse Wades, but you should also collect Jordans, caz in the next 10 years or so, they'll be worth quite a bundle if you've ever searched eBay. They are worth collecting just for you to keep that in mind.

Sooooo, to sum it up. If you're planning to wear and collect the shoes, then I suggest not wearing them outside unless you want to buy multiple pairs for wearing and displaying. It's better to just wear them in a gym or leave them in the box.

All shoes will eventually corrode with time, it's just a matter of the quality of the shoes.
Reply:just.. don't wear them and put them on display will do.. clean it occasionally as well..
