Why are basketball shoes important?

my parents lately havent givin in to buying me a new pair of basketball shoes

why are they better then just any shoe

Why are basketball shoes important?
everything that they said, and for me, ANKLES! i'm always messing mine up so i have to really good shoes and ankle braces. but yeah, mostly stability
Reply:well u do not want just a relaxed shoe for sure, but get something that fits u nice, and gives u support, i dont know how the tmacs r personally sorry
Reply:you dont want to wear shoes that will break your ankles or are to loose . it would suck to play basketball with flip flops
Reply:They're more comfortable, have better traction (which improves stability) and believe it or not, they do improve the height of your jump.
Reply:well the shoes help u fast move and everything
Reply:they have a special tractin with the hardwood the high tops and they prevent sever ankle sprains. if you buy smart and get the light ones like the kobes they actually can help you move fster and jump higher. the average high top shoe weighs 19.4 ounces. the kobes and the nike legend air zooms are high tops that weigh 15.2 a couple ounces might not sound like a lot but they help as anyone who plays basketball will tell you. also it hepls the confidince. if you think you are wearing a light shoe you will move faster.
Reply:Traction, comfort, safety (preventing blisters, lacerasions).
Reply:Becuase basketball shoes are specially made for the court. They have a lot more tread and support. They really do help you more than just any other street shoe, trust me, I know from experience.
Reply:they put you on air
Reply:beats playing bare footed
Reply:They give you ankle support and make you taller looking. You need the ankle support for the risk of landing on other peoples feet when your landing your jump
Reply:Scale back your game...

Do you really "need" Tracy McGrady's signature shoe? Wouldn't everyone involved be better off if you could find some shoes that were just as good for basketball but not "Air Jordans" or whatever.

You are holding your parent's hostage. You should be "happy" with some good basketball shoes that will help you avoid injury and allow you to play hard not make Tracy McGrady "richer". Trust me, he doesn't need your money.
Reply:it gives you more air and speed
Reply:Honestly the only advantage is that they are higher and prevent ankle injuries better than say a running shoe or casual sneaker.

You actually don't jump as high or run as fast in basketball shoes than you would in a lighter more flexible shoe, like a running shoe but you risk injury, so if you want some new basketball kicks play the guilt card and say "If I roll an ankle it is because I was playing in low cut shoes"
Reply:omg. my brotha.

ive had an old pair of bball shoes and i was the SLOWEST one of the court. ur shoes dont stick to the floor and u just slide across.

when i got new shoes. i was fast. so then, everyone figured out i wasn't jus a bad player. just the shoes.

very important
Reply:If you don't wear basketball shoes on the court, your feet will always hurt after playing because regular shoes (like running shoes) don't have the special heel support needed in basketball. Could you imagine trying to play basketball in say, Nike Impax running shoes? Ouch! Talk about destroying you feet! And basketball shoes are also made to grip the court better than regular shoes. Try talking to your parents about risks of not wearing basketball shoes while playing the game. And if your parents do let you get a pair of shoes, don't go for the expensive shoes and look "cool" because all basketball shoes work the same, they give you better foot support in basketball. I got a pair of Nike Hoops Drills basketball shoes in black and not only do they look cool, they work great and are only $40.00. Trust me, in the long run, having a pair of basketball shoes while playing the game will save your feet.
