Basketball Shoes?

A friend once told me that if you walk on concrete with basketball shoes it damages the shoe even if it is only for a few steps

Basketball Shoes?
It doesn%26#039;t damage the shoe, but you%26#039;d like to keep the tread on it as much as possible. I always kept my basketball shoes off until I was on the court. It%26#039;s more of a way to make them last longer and have more grip so you end up on your butt less often.
Reply:my dad told me that it just doesn%26#039;t make the stickyness friction stuff as good and that if you walk around on pavment it will make you slide on the court.
Reply:Nike shoxs!
Reply:Its not true, trust me i have liek 15 pairs of shoes (all b-ball shoes) and i wear them all the time and they look new-just keep them clean.
Reply:Yea. It does. Go to www.everythingsportsshop.com and pick up a new pair!!
Reply:yes, it does, because it dirties it up and makes you look bad
Reply:ya thats not true
Reply:What were they? The Air Gullible?
Reply:A few steps won%26#039;t ruin them, but in general you should not make this a habit.

I played Div II college ball. We got 4 pair of shoes a year. A teammate and I used to got outside and purposely scrape our shoes on concrete. Shoes were Converse and seemed to have a plastic protectant on the bottom, so took a while to have good grip. We did this to get rid of that and break them in quicker. But with most shoes, this isn%26#039;t good practice because it will tear away at the bottom of the shoes, ruining the tread quicker than just normal use.
